Key Ruddington Route Closes Again

Residents and businesses are being reminded that the next phase of the major highways project to reshape one of Ruddington’s busiest junctions – at the Loughborough Road/Kirk Lane/Flawforth Lane crossroads – means the closure of Flawforth Lane for yet another two months.

From Monday 29th July until Friday 20th September 2024 it will again be a long way around for through-traffic, whilst the residents and businesses along Flawforth Lane, Flawforth Avenue and the new Blacksmith’s Green estate will once more be faced with a considerable detour via the A60 and A52 to access their properties to and from Loughborough Road or our village centre, as shown below.

This closure is for another eight weeks!

The above highway improvement works are part of the s278 agreement between house-builders William Davis Homes and Avant Homes, which have major developments still under construction in Ruddington (along Loughborough Road and north of Asher Lane respectively).

Villagers are reminded that existing roadworks a little further down Loughborough Road are also delaying drivers trying to get between Ruddington and Keyworth.  The top of Pendock Lane will either be restricted or temporarily closed to traffic between now and Friday 8th August whilst a new roundabout is constructed at its junction with Loughborough Road, with the A60 itself having multi-way temporary traffic signals in use. This new roundabout is part of the S278 highways agreement with developers in Keyworth, for permission to build hundreds of new homes there, which it is anticipated will make this junction even busier.

Whilst this work is ongoing, the potential diversionary route for drivers wishing to get to Keyworth or Bradmore Garden Centre is via Keyworth Lane, as shown below:

Traffic may be subject to this diversion between now and 30th August 2024

From 2nd September to 8th October 2024 Pendock Lane should be fully open again – but with three-way temporary traffic lights in use at the remodelled junction until the roundabout work is completed.

Other significant highway work which is likely to cause disruption in and around Ruddington during the next couple of months is listed below:-

Wednesday 31st July at 7am until Monday 5th August  at 11pmtemporary NO PARKING restrictions in all the High Street parking bays between its junctions with Church Street and Charles Street – for new connection by National Grid.

Wednesday 7th Aug at 9am until to Friday 9th Aug at 3.30pm – use of Stop/Go boards on Kirk Lane from High Street to Sycamore Close – refreshing of road markings by Nottinghamshire County Council.

There’ll be more temporary traffic lights on Easthorpe Street at the end of August

Monday 19th Aug to Thursday 29th August – 24 hour two-way temporary signals on Easthorpe Street, approximately 50 metres east of the Peartee Orchard junction – for three new domestic services to be connected to the main by Cadent Gas.

Wednesday 21st Aug at 8pm to Sat 24th Aug at 6.00amtwo-way temporary signals on the A60, from Mere Way roundabout travelling south to Moor Farm Access – for “core sampling” by Nottinghamshire County Council.

Friday 20th Sep at 7.00am to Friday 1st Nov at 5.00pmtwo-way temporary traffic lights on Wilford Road – to replace the culvert over Packman Dyke, near the Fairham Green housing development – by Nottinghamshire County Council.

Looking further ahead…

In a bid to address the widespread Ruddington pothole problem previously reported, several signs like the one above (on Clifton Road) have appeared, indicating that major resurfacing works will happen on various key roads in our village during October. However no exact dates have been revealed for these as yet.

As we previously reported, following a number of gas leaks in recent years which required emergency repairsCadent Gas also needs to carry out substantial further work on Wilford Road to replace the troublesome old iron gas main under ‘Dutton’s Hill’ with a “more durable” plastic pipe. However, this has been postponed by VIA East Midlands until other disruptive work in Ruddington is finished… meaning it’s now likely not to be carried out until late this year at the earliest.

More work like this at Dutton’s Hill is expected to be announced soon

Also National Highways has previously announced the long planned major roadworks to enlarge both the Nottingham Knight Island and Wheatcroft Island on the A52 should begin in earnest this September.  Find more details >>HERE<<.

Residents and visitors should anticipate delays and diversions for motorists, and also disruption for passengers using Kinchbus 9Nottingham City Transport’s Navy 3 & Green 10/10C/10X buses during these roadworks.
